Heathrow Hikers - Outdoor Group for West London

Our Committee

Mary-Anne Litchfield - Chairperson
I moved from New Zealand to London in 2005 and joined Heathrow Hikers later in that year. I’ve found the club to be a great mix of young professionals enthusiastically seeking outdoor adventures and I’d highly encourage anyone to join! I really enjoy hiking in wild isolated spots, ideally mountains and forests when I can find them, and I’m always up for trying mountain biking or kayaking as well! My favourite spots so far are Snowdonia and Scotland, and I am looking forward to trying my hand at organising some other trips later in the year.
Gary Box - Outdoor Secretary

I started Heathrow Hikers in the autumn of 2004. Whilst hiking is my main outdoor activity I'm also keen to try more mountain biking, watersports and perhaps even caving.

One of my other hobbies is photography and hopefully I will have more time for this now that we have a committee!

I've made lots of great friends as a result of the group and I'm looking forward to more fun and adventures outdoors with these friends, new and old.

Sue O'Neil - Members Officer
I’m here to encourage an appreciation not only of the great British countryside but also the old British traditions of drinking & socialising! Having discovered a love of hiking in South America, NZ and the Alps, I joined the club in Sept 2005 having realised that I’d seen very little of my own country. I have now been on several trips to Wales, Scotland and the Lakes with the group and have made many good friends too. I have recently taken on the role of the Members Officer and I am looking forward to getting together with the group more often in London to make the most of what’s on offer here too.
Jen Harris - Social Secretary

Having lived on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland my whole life, I've always been an active, outdoor person. I came to the UK in July 2003 to do some exploring and have discovered that getting outdoors on the weekends keeps me sane after spending most of my time in an office during the week. I joined Heathrow Hikers around September 2005, and have thoroughly enjoyed the variety of locations I've visited and people I've met since then.

I've recently taken on the role of Social Secretary, with Sue O'Neill being my partner in crime. Between the two of us, we hope to come up with a great variety of activities and social outings for everyone to enjoy in London. These will be a fantastic opportunity for new members to come along and meet some of the rest of the group. Hope to see you there!

Liesel Schwarz - Newsletter Editor

Like many of my fellow Heathrow Hikers, I moved to the UK in search of adventure about 3 years ago. My interests also include photography, scuba diving and writing, which is why I am the editor of the newsletter. Born in South Africa I have spent time walking and diving wherever I could in the world and I have always believed that it is good for the soul to go to places where there are no windows.

I joined Heathrow Hikers because they are such a great bunch of people and the British Isles are so beautiful, you'd be mad not to.

Chris Tillapaugh - Webmaster
I moved to the UK from Canada in May 2006 and joined Heathrow Hikers the following September. Since then, I’ve been on a number of trips including Snodownia, Brecon Beacons, Cotswolds and Tenerife. I joined Heathrow Hikers to meet likeminded people and to visit areas of the UK where I might not go otherwise. Prior to moving to the UK, I was often in the outdoors perusing activities such as hiking, camping, mountain biking and kayaking. I’m a Software Developer by trade and have my own website to keep my friends and family back home up to date on my travels.
