Heathrow Hikers - Outdoor Group for West London

Challenge Walks

Whilst we all like a good hike in the mountains, sometimes we need that something extra to get the adrenalin pumping. For many in Heathrow Hikers, that something extra is a challenge walk.

Every year we try and ensure there is at least one challenge walk that you can get your teeth into. In 2005 members of the group successfully completed the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge, reaching the summits of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, and covering the 25 miles in well under 12 hours.

In 2006 we completed the National Three Peak Challenge, reaching the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in less than 22 hours. We even used the route featured in the book by B.G. Smailes where you touch the water at Loch Linnhe to start and touch the water at Caernarfon castle to end.

As well as challenge walks such as these, we also like to try some of the more well known Long Distance Paths. In 2006 one of our members completed the 268 mile Pennine Way in 13 days.

So if you like to test yourself why not join us? Some of the events you are likely to see on our programme in the future include:

  • Coast to Coast Walk
  • The Cotswold Way
  • The Ridgeway
  • Offa’s Dyke Path
  • St. Cuthbert’s Way
  • The Cape Wrath Trail
  • The Tour de Mont Blanc
  • The GR20
  • LAAM – Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon
