Munro Bagging

For those of you that do not know what ‘Munro Bagging’ is, it’s the aim of reaching the summit of all 284 Munros. So what is a Munro then? A Munro is a Scottish mountain with a height of at least 3000ft (914.4m). Not all peaks above 3000ft are given ‘Munro’ status, only those that are considered separate mountains.

The term Munro comes from Sir Hugh Munro (1856-1919), who produced the first attempt at a catalogue of these mountains, known as Munro’s Tables. Currently over 3600 people have completed all 284 Munros, their names appearing on The Scottish Mountaineering Club’s website.

Unfortunately, being based in London, members of Heathrow Hikers do not get the opportunity to play in Scotland as much as we would like. Despite this, our love of Scotland means we make as many trips north of the border as possible, ticking off a few more Munro’s each time.

So if you want to become a ‘Munro Bagger’ why not join us? Who knows, you could be the first Heathrow Hikers’ member to bag all 284! To help you keep a record of the Munros you summit we even have a spreadsheet available on our documents page (members only).
